Barnes & Nobel launches Social Network tools on BN.com web site
Barnes & Noble has decided to dip its toes into the social network relm. It announced on Monday iys intention to launch “My B&N,” where online shoppers can set up personal pages focusing on their book, film and music interests and where they can also share information with Facebook and other social networks, using Open Social.
“Through My B&N, book lovers everywhere can create their literary identity, connect and share insights with other readers, discover and rate new products, and keep up to date on events in their local Barnes & Noble store,” said Tom Burke, executive vice president of e-commerce for Barnes & Noble.com. “My B&N provides a virtual space where customers can linger and explore their varied interests, as they would at our stores.”
With “My B&N”, Barnes & Noble.com has also expanded its customer review and ratings tools, allowing users to rate products in much more detail and write reviews that link back to their profile pages, something many users have felt they were weak at compared to other online book sellers like Amazon.com.
The new network can be linked to through the store’s online home page, http://www.bn.com.
